About Me
I have been a part of the Fruitport family since 2001 and have enjoyed every year, from my first few years teaching middle school English to my now many years teaching English at all levels in the high school. Whether it is teen lit or Shakespeare, contemporary poetry or film, I am excited to share my love of language and literature with young people and help them see the value of reading and responding to literature in our culture. My firm belief is that if Americans read more, our country would simply be better.
I graduated from Reeths-Puffer High School, received my BA in English and History from the University of Michigan, and my MA in English from Grand Valley State University, where my master's thesis--my most challenging academic achievement--was an eighty-five page post-colonial analysis of three novels by South African writer J.M. Coetzee.
My husband is a math teacher at Mona Shores Middle School, and we have two daughters who constantly remind us to be curious about everything, creative every day, and dedicated to what matters in our lives and our world.
