Hi Everyone,
Today you are going to do a little research on literary theory to get you ready to discuss a couple of short stories we'll study in the remaining days of class. First read the Purdue OWL page on Literary Theory and Schools of Criticism, and take notes on it. Then read and take notes on two specific theories: one I'm assigning to you and one of your choice. Assignments are as follows:
Psychoanalytic Theory - Hailey, Brad, Lindsay
Gender Studies and Queer Theory - Brieanna, Emily L., Megan M.
Marxist Thoery - Bailli, Megan M., Jenna
New Historicism - Kaylee, Jena, Emily S.
Post-colonial Theory - Chelsey, Dylan
Feminist Theory - Kaytee, Miranda
Over the weekend, please read two stories from the literature book: "The Chrysanthemums" by John Steinbeck (347), and "Everyday Use" by Alice Walker (68). Take some notes on the stories in terms of your theories.
